Stones Throw records seems to be putting out an anthology for the great David Axelrod. Does the world need another Axelrod comp? Yeah maybe in this case as the liner notes and packaging are always spot on with Stones Throw releases.

1. David McCallum – House of Mirrors
2. David McCallum – The Edge
3. Letta Mbulu – Pula Yetla
4. Lou Rawls – Lifetime Monolouge
5. Lou Rawls – You’ve Made Me So Very Happy
6. David Axelrod – The Smile
7. David Axelrod – Song of Innocence
8. David Axelrod – The Mental Traveler
9. David Axelrod – A Divine Image
10. David Axelrod – London
11. David Axelrod – The Fly
12. David Axelrod – Human Abstract
13. David Axelrod – Warning Talk Part One
14. David Axelrod – Warning Talk Part Three
15. David Axelrod – The Signs Part One
16. Don Randi – Theme From The Fox
17. Cannonball Adderley – Tensity
One piece of news caught my eye at the end though…
A DVD release of David Axelrod’s concert at Royal Festival Hall in 2004 is also in the works.
Did I mention I was there for that gig? Let me set the record straight – It was incredible. Straight up mastery in motion. Still brings a wee tear to my eye just thinking about it. Lets hope the DVD does it justice.

Mike just sent me his Big Chill 2005 Photos. Some very amusing shots here – basically any involving me are ‘amusing’.

I’ve always wondered how places get there names. No idea why really, apart from random curiosity. Some quick searching later and I found that Toponymy was the name given to this study.
This is seriously geeky stuff and to me totally fascinating. British toponymy is even more geeky.

I added the much nicer looking header image last night which replaces that default blue skin. I took the shot about a year ago, with loads of my fave lp sleeves on my bed. I took about 5 shots all at slightly different angles and then overlayed them in photoshop until I got this fractured image.
I was dead pleased with it anyways.
The records from right-to-left starting at the top left are :-
Hungry Wolf S/T
Brainchild – Healing Of The Lunatic Owl
Time To Run OST
Jess And James – Move
Mindbender – Stringtronics
New Generation
Robin Jones – Denga
Shogun Assassin – OST
Fred Van Zegveld – Hammond Organ Dynamite
Fear Is A Key – OST
Dynamite Brothers – OST
Asiko – Takes A Trip
Cool Beat
Piero Umiliani – La Ragazza Fuoristrada
Jean-Claude Vannier – L’Enfant Assassins Des Mouches
Klute OST
??
Under Pom Pelmo
Westworld OST

Look at me plugging Dungen (dun-yen btw) like crazy. Their new single ‘Panda’ now has a good video.
The classic one for me though, was for ‘SOLEN STIGER UPP’. Fab vid.

And from reading about Jazzman Geralds B-Music slot, I found myself back at the Jazzman Radio page. Loads of incredible mixes on here – My good friend ‘Blaxploitation’ Ed has a great show…and also the awesome cut chemist.

And speaking of B-Music…those manchester nutcases have put together a rather marvelous fanzine. I picked up the second issue last night (cheers doug!) and it entertained me on the bus last night AND this morning too. Contains such gems as :-
B-Percussion, Burn Your Books, Persian Psych, Jess Franco, Welsh TV, The Gentle Rain, The Doors Get Slammed, Morricone Psych, Pete Fowler’s Monsterism Island, The Green Man Festival and Folk-Funk 45′s.
